Video Interviews of Elaine Hodges
Available on this site are links to video interviews of Elaine R. S. Hodges, previous Editor of The Guild Handbook of Scientific Illustration. Elaine worked as a scientific illustrator in the Department of Entomology at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History. After entering the field of scientific illustration at the Smithsonian in 1965, she helped found the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators, serving as its first newsletter editor and later as vice president and president. She has also lectured, taught, and written extensively on the field.

The first video is a short 5 minute interview between Amy Bartlett-Wright and Elaine Hodges taken during the GNSI conference at Bar Harbor, ME in 2005. They were recollecting how they met and things they have done in the past. The second video is listed in three parts and consists of interviews of many people (including Elaine) and events from the 2004 Williamsburg, Virginia GNSI Conference; these are linked from YouTube where you can view each individually. It is good to see Elaine as the talented cheerful, energetic artist and strong person that she was. We will miss her but will always remember her impact on our lives and the Guild. These videos are also listed on the Site Map page, and are QuickTime movies produced and copyrighted by Donald Gambino: http://www.donaldgambino.com:

Conference Posters! Available here are copies of the posters for this conference listing events open to the public. Click on each image below to view, print and distribute the posters to help publicize these events; they are also available from the Site Map page under Breaking News, and from the Schedule page. These posters are 11 x 17 inches, but you can also print them to 8.5 x 11 inches by reducing to printer margins. Colorful and beautiful, each is a PDF and requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

A Site Map is Available: A link to a site map is now listed at the bottom of all pages and articles (except printer friendly versions of pages). The Site Map page offers a list of all major links and bookmarks to information provided on the main pages of this site. Most external links are not re-listed here, but instead, content is listed by topics as they appear on these pages, and you can use the site map to jump to those topics; each item is an active link. It's an at-a-glance view of the conference site. FYI, Quicklinks lists that appear at the tops of some pages are links that jump you down to a topic that appears on that page, therefore these links are unique to the page you are on.

New Online Articles: We will begin issuing short stories on the natural world in our region, entitled What's in the Wild? Musings and Encounters with the Natural World in Upstate NY. We hope you enjoy these little semi-regular snapshots of the flora and fauna of our area. We'll list the issues here and from the Field Trips and Site Map pages, since the context for some of the stories will be the locations featured in this year's tours and trips, especially noteworthy for those coming from very different climates. Click on the date below to access the first issue. And Enjoy!
Article: April, 20 2008.

CEU Credits: A list of CEU credits for all presentations and workshops is now listed, available from the Schedule, Presentations, Workshops, and Site Map pages. This is a PDF, and like all PDFs available on this site, requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to open and view the document.

The Registration Form is Available Online: The Registration page includes a link to a PDF version of the form for downloading. The form opens in a new window; print it, fill it out and snail mail it to the contact information provided on the form. Contact information for questions is also listed on the form.

Merchandise Page: Check out the conference merchandise on the new Web page dedicated to cool conference "stuff". If you are interested in ordering any of these items, use the registration form which is included in the April newsletter and at this site on the Registration page.

Master Schedule & Charts: The master schedule is available online, with direct links to presentations, workshops, events and maps. The Presentations and Workshops pages have been updated to reflect the order in the schedule. Please note that enrollment is limited for field trips and workshops. Also available from the Schedule, Field Trips, Presentations, Workshops, and Site Map pages, are handy charts to help you map out your time at the conference, created by Margy Nelson. Look for the links to the charts on these pages.

Live Webcams: We've included a couple live Webcams for your enjoyment; the Bird FeederCam is listed with the Lab of Ornithology link on the Links of Interest page, and the Ithaca CommonsCam is available from the Travel Info page.

As always, we thank you in advance for your patience as we evolve the site for this exciting conference event. Please note that this conference Web site is best viewed in Firefox, Safari, and Netscape browsers. REMEMBER to set your browser to refresh with every visit to the site so you see the new changes. If you have questions or are having trouble accessing content or finding information on this site, contact the Webmaster, Lynn Usack, usack@corning-cc.edu; otherwise, refer to the Contact Us page to make inquiries about specifics regarding the event.
